Text description provided by the architects. Nebula is a complete environment and concept, conceived by Balmond Studio for the new Targetti + Louis Poulsen showroom, Spazio Luce, in Milan.
Nebula comprises over 12,000 hand polished aluminium plates and 4km of stretched stainless steel chain. Lights are positioned within and around Nebula, giving new meanings to classics such as the Louis Poulsen Artichoke, creating an emotive and poetic space. Video projections of Balmond’s generative forms are projected within Nebula. The result is an ever-changing realm of illumination and illusion, both day and night.
Balmond blurs the boundaries between architecture, science and art creating the generation-next of form.
Currently he is one of three artists shortlisted to create a sculpture for the border between Scotland and England as part of the Gretna Landmark project. The ArcelorMittal Orbit, designed with Anish Kapoor for the 2012 Olympic Games, will bring a new kind of form to London when it opens next year. Balmond’s vision offers an exciting new way of navigating through space, enriching the contemporary aesthetic of communities and cities.
